Bicycle Accident Case Study
Settlement Over $800,000
The Incident
An experienced cyclist was commuting to work in early August when a City employee ran a red light and struck him in an intersection. The cyclist had a green light and multiple active safety lights on his bicycle at the time of the collision.
The impact destroyed the bicycle and left him injured in the roadway. Paramedics transported him to the emergency room, and he remained hospitalized for three days.
The Impact
The collision caused multiple injuries that required hospitalization and medical treatment. The injuries disrupted his active lifestyle and daily routine.
What We Did
We met with the client in the hospital and immediately took over communication with insurers.
We visited the crash scene, met with witnesses, and hired an accident investigator. We photographed the intersection and documented the stoplight sequencing and timing. We preserved evidence early and built a structured claim supported by documentation.
The Resolution
We resolved the claim directly with the City and avoided litigation.
The case settled for over $800,000. The settlement covered all medical bills and all wage loss, and provided substantial net compensation for pain, suffering, and loss of enjoyment of life.
The Incident
Our client slowed for traffic on Highway 14 in Vancouver, Washington. Another driver violently rear-ended her. Police cited the at-fault driver for Following Too Closely.
Both vehicles sustained significant damage and were towed from the scene.
The Injury
Doctors diagnosed a traumatic brain injury. She experienced ongoing symptoms, including:
-
Vision abnormalities
-
Constant headaches
-
Inner ear balance problems
-
Cognitive processing difficulties
The Dispute
The insurance company hired multiple defense doctors to challenge the severity of the injury and dispute the treating physicians’ opinions.
Before trial, the insurer offered approximately $68,000 to resolve the case.
Given the documented injuries and ongoing symptoms, that offer did not reflect the impact of the collision.
What We Did
We filed suit in Clark County Superior Court.
We prepared the case for trial, organized medical evidence, and addressed the defense medical opinions. The case proceeded to a four-day jury trial.
The Resolution
The jury returned a verdict in excess of $600,000.
The verdict was nearly ten times the insurer’s final offer.

Why “Ready For Court” Gets Better Offers
Insurance companies pay attention to one thing: risk.
When your lawyer is willing to file suit and push a case forward, the risk goes up.
Offers usually go up, too.
